6 months

well its flown by (and this is a few days late) but we've made it to the 6month mark. so I thought id recap with a few things that are happening new and old

1. still not sleeping well its been roughly 2 months since this saga kicked off and its still going strong although as I sit here typing this he's having a mammoth sleep which spells disaster for the night shift. we have recently seen a shift and he's started doing a big sleep early evening, around 4 hours although this may not happen tonight.

2. he's graduated to the next class at baby sensory! and the person running it says she's his favourite! which is really nice. hes also started another class which is messy play which he loves.

3 he's eating lots of different fruit n veg pouches which he loves, mainly because he's a greedy fecker!

   

4 you may have also noticed that your baby has started to develop a distinctive shape and my lil bubba has what we call a solid base because he has massive legs.  they are so big that he is wearing the next size up trousers! to accommodate his freakishly large thighs.

5 his normal routine for a morning consists of getting up watching a film (or finishing one, we are currently watching trolls) then breakfast at 9ish. one day whilst sat in his chair on the kitchen counter I ran the tap and he turned and stared at it like a rabbit in some headlights but this has happened on more than 1 occasion since then. I've ran the tap in other rooms and as soon as it turns on he can hear the sound and then looks for it, its very comical.

6 something else that's new he's got lots of new baby friends, which is really sweet the downside is he's turning into abit of a bully, recent examples of this are whilst on a play date with his friends he grabbed one every time he was placed in the play area and stole another's doll.
 

7 he generally does this


8 he can officially go swimming!  which is so kool we've got waterproof nappies to stop any accidents and a rubber ring for him to sit in!

9 I've done my first solo flight and had to look after him without any boobies which is a big deal as 9 times out of 10 its boobies that calm him down.  so I spent a whole night with not much sleep while I had to sort him out every 2 hours give or take! ill be doing it again this weekend but hes on more foods so I'm better prepared I also have a new secret weapon bottles that are closer to boobies! if they don't work nothing will.

10 back to bodily fluids! coughing makes him laugh not sure why but he laughs when he coughs or other people cough.

so nothing more pleasing than a list of things or a top 10.  I was going to finish with something insightful but whilst my bubba lays on the floor  "belting the shit out of mummy" to quote the missus I've gone blank so ill end with that

seasons greetings

seasons greetings! its boxing day and lots of things to report!

firstly we hit the 5month mark 1 week ago. the major downside is that he still refuses to do a decent length of time asleep hopefully another 3 weeks or so and it will sort itself out as he is the textbook baby!

we've introduced baby porridge and purees into the mix as well as boiled and cooled water, which he loves.  he can near enough use a spoon for splattering food over his clothes n face before whats left of it finds his mouth and he can grip n drink for his tommee tippee cup which ends in him being a little wet after but he thinks its super funny.

and then it was Christmas


with his super strong grip and plenty of help he pretty much managed to open all his presents himself obviously hes not dexterous enough to do it all I helped by twisting them so the wrapper came off.  he was also in a really pleasant mood all day until  7pm when he turns into the devil.

he got a jumper-roo to sit n bounce in which he loves and we got a machine for steaming and prepping his food once he moves on from baby rice n purees so we can make them ourselves which will be a huge money saver and fun!

overall Christmas was a great success  lots of pictures and smiles we also kept up the tradition of buying a crap Christmas decoration for our tree which is a 1 eyed reindeer with sticks for horns. he has started using more interactive toys with lots of lights and noises and things that he can touch which is great so much has changed so quickly!

weaning

so bubba is 18 weeks old and is showing all the signs for being ready to be weaned.  if your not sure what they are here is a brief list of things to look out for:

holding their head up
sitting up independently
interested in your food
still hungry after a milk feed


some of these could be signs of a growth spurt though as these happen a lot during the first 6months so if ur not sure you can try them with baby rice which isn't actual rice. its a powder that you mix with milk (not proper milk) and then spoon feed them.  this is really cute when they try n put a spoon into their mouth

so we are trying as part of his routine a baby rice meal at tea time and we've also tried mixing in purees although he doesn't like them on their own he doesn't mind them when they are mixed in.

so whilst ur reading this and paying no attention to your child have a quick look at what's happening and see how many you can tick off the list.

babies development

I did want to put this in my last post but never mind. firstly at this point baby remembers roughly 80% of what is being said so at the minute if when your sleep deprived you end up calling your baby a knob head for keeping you up its not to bad.

 
its animated what's the worst that could happen lol  coincidently I did watch this and my lil bubba loved all the talking food he was laughing loads which was nice problem is the swearing violence and random food orgy at the end lol

so where is this heading well as baby retains so much you don't want his or her first words to be knob head no matter how funny it would be.

so as the months roll on remember baby is remembering loads of what you are saying and showing him so try not to swear lol

the other thing I thought id talk about is teats


unfortunately its not that kind.   its bottle teats those rubber things that if your bottle feeding go in babies mouth.  what's important to remember is that as baby gets older you need to change the size of the teats.

so for those bottle feeding and at the 4 month mark you should be on the next size up which is a medium flow 2 tears on the package and is a number 2 its that simple!

45 min monster

so here's what's happening with the bubba at near enough 15 weeks the bubba has been reading the how to not sleep manual.  He is pretty much getting up at all hours to feed again so those nice long 5 hour stints have disappeared ! if this sounds familiar don't worry! At this stage baby is learning to go into a proper sleep so at 45mins they will either go for it and into a deep sleep

  

which is all good but on the other hand it could go horribly wrong!

yea that's right you end up with an overtired baby that refuses to sleep!




So that's the first problem!  weve done some reading and as usual he's the textbook baby and doing everything he should be although this phase lasts until 6months which is a VERY long time when your seeing every hour of every day lol

but on a positive note  he is doing really well at baby sensory he's so good and joins in with what the tutor is doing and she uses him as her example for why its important to start these classes early as we can see a definite improvement in him already.  we've also booked him on the next set of classes as he does love it as well.

so their you go this is whats happening at the nearly 4 month mark!
